Punjab has enforced a new motorcycle safety rule ahead of Basant celebrations, making it mandatory for bikes to be fitted with safety rods in designated festival areas. The move aims to prevent injuries caused by sharp kite strings, which have led to fatal accidents in past years.
Officials said the rule is a preventive safety measure, not a travel ban, and is meant to protect riders, pedestrians, and families during the celebrations. Enforcement will remain active only during official Basant days and within approved zones.
Authorities warned that motorcycles without safety rods will not be allowed to enter restricted areas and may face fines or legal action. Riders have been advised to follow traffic instructions, avoid unnecessary travel, and comply with safety rules to ensure a safe and joyful Basant for everyone.
